The Story Behind Every Flag

TrueVetFlag™ started in a garage. The founder is a combat veteran who came home from deployment and needed something to do with his hands. He started building wooden flags — not for a business, not for money. Because everything over there was about destroying things, and he needed the opposite of that. The first flag was ugly and crooked, but it looked like it had been through something. And that was the point. He made one for a buddy from his unit. Then one for a Gold Star family. Then the VFW started asking. He never set out to start a company. He set out to stay sane. The company is what happened when people saw what he was building and said, I need one of those in my house.

Every Flag Is Built By Hand, Signed By The Veteran Who Made It

Every Scar In The Wood Was Carved By A Hand That Served

No CNC routers. No laser cutters. No assembly line. One veteran picks the wood. One veteran carves the stars with a chisel. One veteran stains each stripe by hand. One veteran distresses the surface with a torch and hand tools. One veteran seals it, signs the back, and ships it. When you hang a TrueVetFlag on your wall, you're not hanging a product. You're hanging proof that a veteran rebuilt himself one flag at a time.

Built To Look Like It's Been Through Something

The wood is gouged, burned, sanded unevenly, and stained in layers. On purpose. These flags aren't supposed to look perfect. They're supposed to look like they've been through something — because the man who made them has been through something. The distressing is done freehand, by feel. No two flags are alike. Some have deeper burns. Some have rougher edges. That's the signature, not a defect.

The Gift That Says Everything Without A Word

Fathers, husbands, grandfathers, brothers — the men who served don't usually ask for things. But when they unwrap this and see the hand-carved stars, the burn marks, and the signature on the back from the veteran who built it, they go quiet for a second. That quiet second is the whole reason this product exists.

My husband cried, and he never cries
Ordered this for my husband's birthday. He served two tours and doesn't talk about it much. When he opened the box and saw the burn marks on the wood and the hand-carved stars, he just held it for a while. Then he read the card about the veteran who built it and his eyes welled up. He hung it above his desk that night and it hasn't moved. He told his best friend about it the next day. That's the highest compliment he gives anything.

This is the real deal, not Amazon junk
Solid wood. Hand-carved. Signed on the back. You can smell the cedar when you open the box. Nothing like the flimsy plywood thing I returned last year.

gave this to my dad for father's day and he still talks about it
my dad is a marine. vietnam. he has a wall in his den with his unit photos and medals and a folded flag from his father's funeral. i've been trying to find something worthy of that wall for years. every wooden flag i found online looked cheap or fake or like it came off a laser cutter in a warehouse. this one stopped me. the wood looks weathered, like it's been through something. the stripes aren't perfect and that's the whole point. when i gave it to him he turned it over and saw the signature from the veteran who carved it and he just nodded and said where do you find something like this. it's been on his wall since june and every person who walks into his house asks about it. best money i've ever spent on a gift.

Veteran here — bought this for myself, no shame
Twenty-two years Army, retired E-8. I don't usually buy things for myself but I saw this and something about the way the wood looked hit me. Looked beaten up and proud at the same time. That tracked. Hung it in the garage where I spend most of my time and it feels like it belongs there. Knowing a brother built it with his hands matters. Supporting a fellow vet matters. Quality is outstanding.

Ordered the large for our fireplace
The 40-inch version above our stone fireplace is the first thing every guest notices and comments on. The craftsmanship is visible from across the room — the depth of the carved stripes, the burn-charred edges, the way no two planks are quite the same. It looks like a piece that should cost a thousand dollars. Worth every penny.

Honest review from someone who was skeptical
I'll be honest, I've seen a lot of wooden flag companies and most of them are just people with a CNC machine and a veteran marketing angle. Ordered this half-expecting the same. It is not the same. When the box arrived, there was sawdust still on the packing paper. The flag itself has real chisel marks, real torch burns, real uneven stain. You can feel where the veteran's hands were on the wood. The signature on the back made it personal. This is a handmade piece of art, not a manufactured product. My only regret is not ordering the large.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who actually makes these?

Every TrueVetFlag is built by hand by a combat veteran in a small workshop in the USA. One man picks the wood, cuts the planks, carves the stars, stains each stripe, distresses the surface with a torch and hand tools, seals it, signs it on the back, and ships it. No CNC machines. No laser cutters. No factory floor. No outsourcing.

How long does it take to arrive?

Most flags ship within 3 to 5 business days and arrive within 5 to 9 days for most US locations. Because every flag is handmade to order, timing depends on the current build queue. You'll receive a tracking number as soon as your flag ships.

What sizes are available?

Two sizes: Medium (25" x 15") fits above a mantel, on a study wall, or in an entryway. Large (40" x 20") is a full statement piece for a living room, garage, or above a fireplace. Both sizes come with a sawtooth hanger pre-installed on the back for easy wall mounting.

Why does it look rough or "battle worn"?

On purpose. Every flag is intentionally distressed by hand — gouged, burned, sanded unevenly, and stained in layers. The flags aren't supposed to look perfect. They're supposed to look like they've been through something, because the man who made them has been through something. The distressing is done freehand, which is why no two flags are alike. Deeper burns, rougher edges, uneven wear — that's the signature, not a defect.

What if it arrives damaged?

Every flag is individually wrapped and packed by the same veteran who built it. If anything happens during shipping, we replace it immediately — no questions and no hassle. We also offer a 30-day satisfaction guarantee on every order.
